It’s no wonder that E-Scooters are so popular. They’re slim and speedy making them compact, easily transportable and fun to ride. And whether you’re using yours to zoom around town at the weekend or for the commute to work in the morning, there are a few things you should know about how to care for your E-Scooter to ensure longevity and consistent performance.

In this article, we’ll share everything you need to know about E-Scooter maintenance, from your brakes to your tyres, as well as the importance of lubrication and the best products available to help you do the job!

How to Maintain Your E-Scooter

Battery Care

Charging and Storage

The battery is one of the most important elements of your E-Scooter. After all, without the battery, it’s just an (extra heavy) run-of-the-mill scooter. If your battery gets damaged, you’ll have none of the powerful boosts that make an E-Scooter so appealing. So how do you make sure that your battery stays in tip-top condition?

What you want from your battery is for it to maintain charge. If your battery starts to deteriorate through poor maintenance, you will see a significant difference in how long your E-Scooter will run for. The last thing you want to happen is to go out for a ride and your battery to run out of juice, meaning you have to push it all the way home.

The best way to keep your battery running at maximum capacity is to avoid something called a charging ‘cycle’. This is where you allow the battery to completely drain before you charge it again. For every ‘cycle’ your battery completes, it becomes less efficient and holds less charge. We advise that you pay attention to your battery life and charge it while it still has power. Essentially, don’t let the battery run all the way down!

Temperature is another key to your E-Scooter’s battery life, both in storage and when in use. For this reason, you should avoid storing and using your battery in extreme heat or cold, as extreme temperatures will ruin your battery over time.

How to Clean Your E-Scooter

Without regular cleaning of your E-Scooter’s components, dirt and grime will accumulate, causing gradual wear and damage to its most important mechanisms, but before you begin, you just consider any exposes electrical charging ports.

It’s essential that when you’re cleaning your E-Scooter, you cover and protect the charging ports. Tru-tension cleaning products, such as E-Scooter Snow Foam are designed so you don’t need water to achieve that deep clean. However, cleaning products can still leak inside your charging port and cause damage.

You should never charge your battery while you are cleaning your E-Scooter. It is safe to charge before or after you clean, but never during, so make sure you unplug it until you are finished and keep that port covered.

Tyre Care

Pressure and Tread

E-Scooter tyres are put through the wringer; they’re used to travel for long journeys at speed, so it’s important to keep an eye on tyre pressure and tread.

We recommend that you check the pressure of your tyres before each ride to check whether they are adequately inflated. Underinflated tyres are at risk of punctures and have a weaker grip on the road which can cause damage to the inner tube.

It’s only natural that your tyres experience wear and tear over time. This constant contact with the road and input from the brakes means that there’s little you can do to prevent it, just keep an eye out and be prepared for a repair with a replacement tyre.

Brake Care

Checks, Adjustments and Replacements

Faulty brakes can come as a nasty surprise.

Your brake mechanism will vary depending on your model of E-Scooter, so you should consult your user manual for tips on how to take care of your brake system.

For example, if your scooter features a disk brake, which is subject to wear and tear, over time it will likely need to be replaced or adjusted.

We advise that you check the effectiveness of your brakes regularly by applying them while moving at a low speed before you set off.

Cleaning

Just as with any other component on your E-Scooter, it’s important to protect your brakes from a build-up of dirt and oil. If your brake components are left coated in this mixture for too long, it can cause wear and corrosion. That’s why you need to carry out regular maintenance on your brakes with a quality cleaner, such as E-Scooter Brake Cleaner, designed to rapidly remove grime for optimum brake performance.

E-Scooter Lubrication

Another important aspect of E-Scooter maintenance is lubrication. You need to ensure adequate lubrication on your scooter components to prevent damage caused by friction and corrosion.

Ideally, you need to target all the moving parts of your scooter, spraying a small amount of a product like E-Scooter Maintenance Spray onto the wheel bearings, the shock absorber and the folding mechanism.

If your scooter has disc brakes, ensure that you do not spray any lubricant on your brake pads or rotor surface.

Once you have sprayed all of the necessary parts, make sure to wipe off any excess lubricant.
